More Information about Prostate Screening
Prostate screening is recommended in males over 40 who have symptoms such as difficultly passing urine or passing urine frequently at night.
Our screening service (basic cost £150) includes a discussion of symptoms, a digital rectal examination to assess prostate size and consistency, a urine dip test for blood or infection, and a blood test for PSA (prostate-specific antigen). If the urine dip test is positive for infection, it is recommended that this be sent for identification to the laboratory (at an extra cost of £52), but if you prefer we can give you a suitable antibiotic to try. If the PSA comes back higher than normal this could be a marker that you may need the attention of a urologist surgeon, which we can arrange for you if you wish; alternatively you can ask your GP for referral through the NHS.
