More Information about Emergency Contraception Consultations
We provide a discreet and confidential service for the provision of emergency contraception in the case of women at risk of unwanted pregnancy as a result of unprotected sex or failed condom within the last 72 hours. You may also be at risk if you have missed or been late with one or more doses of your normal oral contraceptive pill. Note that emergency contraception medication is also available over-the-counter at most pharmacies, and this may be all you require.
Our standard emergency contraception consultation includes a urine-based pregnancy test, medication and full counselling as to what you should expect and what should be done if you vomit after taking the medication, or the expected period does not follow the medication. The cost is less if you do not wish to undergo the pregancy test (for example if there is absolutely no chance you may already be pregnant), but this is done on your own responsibility and it may result in complications later on if you are wrong on this matter. If you have concerns about a possible sexually transmitted infection, please discuss your concerns with the clinician, who can then recommend appropriate additional tests and/or medication (more information). You may also wish to discuss various methods of contraception that may suit you better than the one which has failed.
We do not usually fit Intrauterine Devices (IUD/Coils) as an emergency contraceptive method, but these are available on pre-order or can be ordered after consultation for next-day fitting.
Please do not hesitate to email us at enquiries@doctortoday.co.uk or call us on 020 7433 1444 if you have any further questions or wish to make an appointment.
